Female sailing makes its way into the 46th CaixaBank Conde de Godó Trophy

The 68 boats participating in the 46th CaixaBank Conde de Godó Trophy have stayed on land today, at the Real Club Nautico de Barcelona, because of the lack of wind that the incessant rain has caused on this first day of competition in the Catalan capital.

During the morning the crews have done their homework and concentrated on the final preparations, but after analyzing the weather forecast the Race Committee has decided to postpone today’s races.

Who has best taken advantage of this day has been the team of J80 Dorsia Sailing Team, with their official presentation. Owned by Ana Pujol and with Natalia Vía-Dufresne as skipper, it is one of the three completely female teams that compete in the 46th CaixaBank Conde de Godó Trophy.

"We are three completely female teams in a fleet of nine boats in our class, so I am very happy and I hope this encourages other girls to sail," the double Olympic medalist said. She recognized that the favorite to beat will be the Bribón-Movistar of Marc de Antonio and Sofia Bertrand. In fact, this team is the most successful in the history of the Conde de Godó Trophy, since it accumulates a total of fifteen victories.

Two other women teams will also fight for the podium of the J80 class, the Central Óptica of Julia Casanueva and the Akewuele of Silvia Ravetllat.

In addition to the Bribón-Movistar and the three female crews, in the J80 fleet another of the teams that are in the pools is Les Roches-Crisandkim Travel of Pepequin Orbaneja. "We are looking forward to racing here again, after the victory two years ago and the absence of the last edition, although the opponents are very well prepared and play at home", Orbaneja said.

Apart from the J80 class, the sailors of the rest of the classes have also been working on the last preparations. The Dragon and the J70 are all in the water, ready to inaugurate the Godó Trophy tomorrow.

In ORC, those of Estrella Damm have prepared their DK 46 consciously. "Predictably we will relive the duel Rats on Fire-Estrella Damm of last year in the Copa del Rey, which we won. But Barcelona is the fief of the Rats and we have two consecutive seconds... In any case, we have not sailed together since the Copa del Rey, so we will have to re-adjust details and try things”, Óscar Chaves explained.

Tomorrow the first starts are scheduled at 12 o'clock for the four participating classes.

Organized by the Real Club Nautico de Barcelona with the collaboration of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and the Catalan Sailing Federation, the 46th CaixaBank Conde de Godó Trophy is sponsored by CaixaBank and supported by La Vanguardia, the City Council of Barcelona and the Generalitat de Catalunya. Collaborating companies are Gramona, Estrella Damm, Royal Bliss, VIP Style Magazine, Veri, Benfumat, Nordés and Mizuno.
