Grand première of 46 CaixaBank Conde de Godó Trophy

23-05-2019

The horn of departure will be heard tomorrow, for the first races of the 46 CaixaBank Conde de Godó Trophy, the prestigious regatta organized by the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona and a great reference in the whole Mediterranean. Up to 70 boats are called to fight for one of the four mermaids in dispute in this edition, one for each participating class: the already traditional ORC cruises and J80, and the J70 and the Dragon.

The first Conde de Godó Trophy, promoted in 1974 by Carlos Godó, second Count of Godó and then president of the RCNB, was played in the Dragon class, and that is why it is so emotive to have them back. The fleet has 15 units and is the most international, with nine teams coming from abroad, from Russia, Denmark, Portugal, Germany and France. For them, the Barcelona competition will be Spanish Cup.

Also premiered at the CaixaBank Conde de Godó Trophy, the J70 form a fleet of ten boats, vibrant and fun. Favorites are the Noticia of Luis Martín Cabiedes and the Russian New Territories of Alexey Semenov.

In J80, the Bribón-Movistar of Marc de Antonio and Sofia Bertrand will fight for their fifth championship title of the Conde de Godó in one design classes, after the victories of 2008 (Platú 25) and 2014, 2017 and 2018 (J80). The Andalusian team of Les Roches-Crisandkim Travel, led by Pepequin Orbaneja, or the female crew of the Dorsia Sailing Team, which includes the Olympic double medalist Natalia Vía-Dufresne, will be worthy rivals in the Barcelona racing area.

The 34 units of ORC are divided into three categories: ORC 0-1, ORC 2 and ORC 3-4. In the first of them, the one of the biggest boats, Rafael Carbonell's Rats on Fire is undoubtedly the big favorite. This Swan 45 of Club Nautic Arenys de Mar has accumulated nine Conde de Godó trophies, the last six in a row. The podiums also include DK 46 Estrella Damm by Nacho Montes and Óscar Chaves, winner of the last Copa del Rey Mapfre, as well as the Swiss Kajsa III by Rof Auf Dervmaur and Es Tes Unno by Francisco Soldevila.

In ORC 2, L'Immens-Laplaza Assesors of Alexandre Laplaza will compete in the Godó Trophy with the aim of revalidating the triumph achieved last year indisputably, with full partial victories. Also in ORC 3-4 the winner of the last year, the Vertigo Dos of Antonio Guasch, is not missing to the appointment.

Races will take place from tomorrow until Sunday. Seven races have been scheduled for the ORC, six for the Dragon and ten for the J70 and J80.

Organized by the Real Club Nautico de Barcelona with the collaboration of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and the Catalan Sailing Federation, the 46th CaixaBank Conde de Godó Trophy is sponsored by CaixaBank and supported by La Vanguardia, the City Council of Barcelona and the Generalitat de Catalunya. Collaborating companies are Gramona, Estrella Damm, Royal Bliss, VIP Style Magazine, Veri, Benfumat, Nordés and Mizuno.
