More than 70 boats take part in the 46 CaixaBank Conde de Godó Trophy
The 46th edition of the prestigious CaixaBank Conde de Godó Trophy, organized since 1974 by the Royal Yacht Club of Barcelona (RCNB) with the support of the Godó family, will be held in the waters of Barcelona from 23rd to 26th of May, with the inclusion of interesting novelties, as announced today at the presentation. The regatta will gather this year some 70 boats and about 600 sailors, and eleven countries will be represented.
The presentation was attended by the director of the Catalan Council of Sports of the Generalitat de Catalunya, Toni Reig; the deputy of Sports of the Diputació de Barcelona, Maite Fandos, and the commissioner of Sports of the Barcelona City Council, Marta Carranza.
The president of the RCNB, Félix Escalas, and the commodore of the yacht club and director of the CaixaBank Conde de Godó Trophy, Marc de Antonio, attended also the event, as well as Ana Godó, representing the Godó Group, and the director of the Institutions of Barcelona of CaixaBank, Víctor Arbós, among other authorities.
The entry of CaixaBank as a sponsor of the competition and the inclusion of the one design boats J70 and Dragon (added to the J80 and the ORC cruises) are the main novelties of the 46th CaixaBank Conde de Godó Trophy.
"We are very proud of the volume and quality of participation, and that we can welcome the Dragon, which is the boat with which the first Godó was held," said Félix Escalas.
"In addition to the traditional J80 and the novelty of the Dragon, this year the one design boats gain strength and we have also incorporated the J70", the director of the Trophy, Marc de Antonio, highlighted.
"For CaixaBank, it is a source of pride to contribute to the positioning of Barcelona as an international benchmark in the organization of regattas", Víctor Arbós said, an idea that Marta Carranza also picked up: "From the City Council we support sporting events that are referents and that are held on an annual and permanent basis".
The director of the Consell Català de l'Esport congratulated the yacht club of Barcelona for the "historical and prestigious work" involved in the organization of 46 editions of the Conde de Godó.
Indeed, today, in the 46th edition, the CaixaBank Conde de Godó Trophy is the oldest sailing trophy for cruisers organized uninterruptedly in Spain and one of the most important in the Mediterranean.
Organized by the Real Club Nautico de Barcelona with the collaboration of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and the Catalan Sailing Federation, the 46th CaixaBank Conde de Godó Trophy is sponsored by CaixaBank and supported by La Vanguardia, the City Council of Barcelona and the Generalitat de Catalunya.
