Rats on Fire, L'Immens, Fanytas and Bribón-Movistar will defend their title at the 45th Conde de Godó Trophy

17-05-2018

Within a week the waters of Barcelona will be the scene of the first day of the Conde de Godó Sailing Trophy, the regatta organized by the Real Club Nautico de Barcelona since 1974 with the support of the Godó family. From Friday 25 to Sunday 27 May, there will be three days of maximum level racing, with about 50 boats participating. Among them, the winners of the last edition will fight to repeat triumph: Rats on Fire, L'Immens, Fanytas and Bribón-Movistar.

A week to go for what is one of the most important regattas in the Mediterranean, and there are already more than 40 registered teams, of ORC cruises and J80 monotypes. While waiting for the registration of some more boats, the 45th edition of the Conde de Godó Trophy can already confirm the excellent level of its fleet. In fact, the four winners of last year repeat participation, willing to fight for one of the precious mermaids with which each winner is awarded.

Of them, Rats on Fire of Rafael Carbonell, who won in ORC 0-1, is the almost eternal favorite. Last year he won his eighth victory, being the fifth in a row. It is the third team with more Condes de Godó, behind Bribón of José Cusí and SM the King Juan Carlos (11 victories) and Lupa of César Obregón (eight Godós, seven consecutive). In the 45th edition, Rats on Fire will fight again for the crown and to unseat Lupa of the second step of this special podium.

In ORC 2, L'Immens aspires to its third Conde de Godó, after the victories of 2017 and 1995, by the hand of Alexandre Laplaza. In ORC 3-4, Fanytas of Miquel Banús aspire to his fourth title and the third consecutive. Bribón Movistar of Marc de Antonio has also tasted the victory in the Conde de Godó Trophy several times, two in J80 and one in Platú 25.

But the current champions will not have it easy in Barcelona. Strong teams have already confirmed their participation, such as Adrián Hoteles, Vell Marí V and Swiss Kajsa III, among others.

Three days of races are scheduled for the 45th Conde de Godó Trophy. Thursday 24 is the day reserved for registration of participants. The races will run from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 May, with a total of seven races scheduled for the ORC and ten for the J80.

Organized by the Real Club Nautico de Barcelona with the collaboration of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and the Catalan Sailing Federation, the 45th Conde de Godó Sailing Trophy has the support of La Vanguardia, the City Council of Barcelona and the Government of Catalunya. The collaborators are Gramona, Estrella Damm, Nº3, Royal Bliss, VIP Style Magazine and Veri.
