THE CONDE DE GODÓ-MERCHBANC TROPHY INCREASES THE NUMBER OF ENTRIES

The number of entries in this year's Conde de Godó-Merchbanc Trophy shows the good health of the regatta and the organizing club the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona.

"We are very pleased with the great reception this year's Conde de Godó-Merchbanc Trophy has had with an increase in number of entries and the level of the fleet" explains Joaquín Barenys, Director of the Conde de Godó-Merchbanc Trophy, adding: "The organization has a very high level and the fleet is eager to sail. In addition, the celebration of the 2015 ORC World Championship is an incentive."

The competition aims really high and the number of entries in the ORC class has increased in more than 20% compared to last year's Conde de Godó-Merchbanc Trophy.

46 ORC ENTRIES AND SIX DIFFERENT COUNTRIES REPRESENTED

The ORC class gets the final preparations underway before the Conde de Godó-Merchbanc Trophy begins. The ORC class – divided into the classes 0, 1, 2 and 3 - lists 46 entries sailing from Friday along the coast of Barcelona.

In this international edition of the Conde de Godó-Merchbanc Trophy the fleet will represent the flags of six different countries: Spain, Russia, Switzerland, Virgin Islands, France and Czech Republic.

A J80 WORLD CHAMPIONS DUEL PRIOR TO THE CONDE DE GODÓ-MERCHBANC TROPHY

Although the official racing won’t start until Friday at 16h00 some of the powerful but small J80 entries haven´t stopped with their ongoing training.

The day before the start of the Conde de Godó-Merchbanc Trophy has seen two prior world champions as protagonists. The duel between Hugo Rocha’s "New Territories" and José María Van der Ploeg’s "Great Sailing"; World Champions in 2013 and 2014 respectively, has been more than evident in today’s training session and didn’t leave anyone indifferent.

The number of entries in this one-design class shows both the rise of the J80 class and the interest of this fleet in the competition organized by the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona. Nineteen J80´s will fight for the Conde de Godó-Merchbanc Trophy.

Two world champions; Hugo Rocha’s "New Territories" and José María Van der Ploeg’s "Great Sailing”, a European champion; Carlos Martinez’s "Deltastone", and also the winner of the recent Palmavela race,  Marc de Antonio and Sofia Bertrand’s "Bribón-Movistar", are just an example of the fleet that will fight for victory in the Conde de Godó-Merchbanc Trophy. It will be a Trophy more red hot than in any other edition.

THE FIRST APPOINTMENT: FRIDAY AT 16H00

The Conde de Godó-Merchbanc Trophy will start on Friday when the Race Committee will attempt to start two races for the ORC class and three for the J80 fleet.
