Barcelona prepares to welcome hundreds of sailors and more than 50 pre-registered boats

The ORC boats – with the classes 0, 1, 2, and 3- sailing in corrected time and the J80 one-designs sailing in real time, will be the different protagonists.

The Real Club Nautico de Barcelona, with the intention to adapt the Conde de Godó-Merchbanc Trophy to the current needs, has selected the ORC and the J80 classes to race in the 41st edition of the Conde de Godó-Merchbanc Trophy.

The Conde de Godó Sailing Trophy was born in 1974 and then it was reserved for the Dragon class. Since then, the RCNB has had the challenge to designate the categories participating in their most famous competition.

The ORC class has a high level of competition that increases every day and even more with the appointment of the RCNB to host the 2015 ORC World championship. The fleet will enjoy a battle of titans of very different lengths with boats ranging from 50 feet or more in length; as Alberto Fucale’s First 50 "Don’t Ask", Swiss Rolf Auf der Maur’s DK46 " Kajsa III”, or the largest in the fleet: Russian Sergey Pokrovsky’s Mobile 53 "Anna", to other much smaller; like Pedro Franco’s Platu 25 "KH7" or Jordi Delgado’s Comet 33 "Springbok III".

The J80 class has increased both the number of units and the excellent level of the Spanish fleet, accumulating international titles in recent years. And since they are all identical they will be sailing in real time.

The Conde de Godó-Merchbanc Trophy will be held from May 22nd to the 25th. Thursday is intended for the participants’ registration and to collect the sailing instructions. The first race will start on Friday at 16h00 for the ORC and J80 fleets. Both Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th racing will start at 12h00 for both classes.

There will be two race courses near the Olympic Port and Port Forum. The ORC class will has scheduled seven races, while the J80 has eight. The discards will only be applied once there has been sailed at least five races for the ORC fleet and six for the J80 boats.

The Conde de Godó-Merchbanc Trophy has a social program designed so all the sailors feel at home.

The social program will start on Friday 23rd with the opening of the Race Village at 10h00. In the afternoon will take place the Welcome Ceremony for the ORC and J80 crews taking part in the 41st edition of the Conde Godó-Merchbanc Trophy.

During the following days competitors will be able to participate in several activities organized by Hotties Wetsuits and Stand Up Paddleboards. They will also be able to sample products offered by the sponsors Schara, Fisan, ByPepa and Farggi. Saturday evening the sailors will enjoy a session by DJ Miss Tuk.

Bruno Garcia, well known sailor in the Mini Class and participant in the round the world race Barcelona World Race, will offer a conference on Sunday after racing. After Bruno Garcia’s conference the prize giving ceremony will commence to crown the winners of the 41st Conde Godó-Merchbanc Sailing Trophy.
