The Soto 40 BIGAMIST shines on a journey that places him as leader of its class, while AZZURRA maintains its supremacy, FACTOR ENERGIA regains lost ground with two first places and OPEN SEASON has the job done

- The Soto 40 BIGAMIST shines on a journey that places him as leader of its class, while the TP52 AZZURRA maintains its supremacy, the J-80 FACTOR ENERGIA regains lost ground with two first places and the Wally OPEN SEASON has the job done.

- In ORC 2 and 3, Javier Banderas’ XSPAIN and Miquel Banus’ FANYTAS are the untouchable and have won all the races today in their respective classes. ORC1 is the territory for German ELENA NOVA.

After the harsh conditions the fleet had on Friday in the Conde de Godo Sailing Trophy, the races scheduled for Saturday had to wait longer than expected due to the light wind that was blowing in Barcelona during the morning, but that intensity increased up to 20 knots.

It has been a very tight day in most classes and the winners won’t be revealed until the final racing day. There is still a lot to be decided, two races to go and in some cases the discards which can overturn the final rankings.

The situation in the Soto 40 class is red hot, after the show offered today by Pedro Mendonça’s BIGAMIST. The Portuguese team has claimed two victories in both races sailed, thus ousting British EARLY BIRD in the overall positions (despite both boats ending in a tie). The third place in the class goes to Herrik Brandis and Christian Najel’s BLACK PEARL. Clearly, the final day promises an exciting journey amongst the SOTO 40.

Where everything can happen is in the tight TP52 class, which with two races still to fight for the leader is AZZURRA. Just six points separate the top three boats (AZZURRA, QUANTUM RACING and RAN) and they all promise to fight to the end, if the tandem Parada-Vascotto allows them.

In the Wally Class is almost a single-handed game for Mike Atkinson’s OPEN SEASON since the British has won 5 of the 6 races sailed.

In the J80 class José María Van der Ploeg’s FACTOR ENERGÍA has set the pace of the day scoring two firsts and a second place. Despite the excellent day of Van der Ploeg’s Team, Carlos Martinez’s ZHIK / NOVASAIL continues leading the overall ranking by a wide margin, followed by J. Chacartegui’s HM Hotels, although there are still two races to go on the final day. Third placed is Benjumeda’s PUERTO SHERRY who tomorrow will put a fight to gain some valuable points.

ORC is the only class that is beginning to discern two possible winners after the spectacular races of Javier Banderas’ XSPAIN, with Iñaki Castañer and Luis Doreste in its crew, and Miquel Banus’ FANYTAS. Both boats have won all the races of the day. In ORC 1 Bouwe Bekking’s team onboard ELENA NOVA maintains its leadership despite an irregular day.
