Victories in the 45th Conde de Godó Trophy will be expensive


Up to 51 boats and some 500 sailors from eight countries meet at the Real Club Nautico de Barcelona (RCNB) for the 45th Conde de Godó Trophy, with racing from Friday to Sunday. Rats on Fire, L'Immens, Fanytas and Bribón-Movistar will defend title in each of the four categories, but victories this year are sold expensive, as a result of the modifications that the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation has done in the cruising regatta rules.

Up to 43 ORC boats, which will be divided into groups ORC 0-1, ORC 2 and ORC 3-4, and 8 units of one-design J80 will take the first start of the races of the Conde de Godó Trophy, tomorrow at 14.30 hours according to the program.

Among the vibrant J80, the Bribón-Movistar of Marc de Antonio will try to revalidate the title achieved last year. It will not be easy: any minimum error is expensive. Among his maximum opponents, Nacex of Agustín Altadill and Minisdef of the Spanish Navy.

The excitement is assured in ORC, after the changes introduced in the racing regulations, basically because "several teams competing in ORC 2 now go to ORC 3-4, so there is a new fleet and several very powerful boats", explains Sports Director of RCNB, Pere Sarquella.

Due to this, the revalidation of the title for the Fanytas of Miquel Banús in ORC 3-4 will not be easy. Vell Marí V from Mallorca, Belgian Saiola X and Vértido Dos of Antonio Guasch (who last year was second in ORC 2) are strong candidates for the podium. Up to 18 units will be presented on the starting line of this category.

In ORC 2, with 13 participating boats, L'Immens-La Plaza Assessors by Alexandre Laplaza starts as favorite, as Rats on Fire of Rafael Carbonell in ORC 0-1. This Swan 45 has already accumulated eight wins in the Conde de Godó Trophy, the last five in a row. The DK46 Prink of Santi Monjo is a firm candidate to the podium, as well as the Sydney 43 Adrián Hoteles of Daniel Adrián.

In the pontoons of the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona, ​the teams have focused today on preparing the boats and formalizing the registration in the 45th Conde de Godó Trophy. Seves races are scheduled for the ORC and ten for the J80.

According to the weather forecast, there will be East winds for the three days of racing. "It will not be a storm of ‘Levante’, but we will have between 10 and 17 knots and it will be quite wavy, so it will be exciting," Sarquella predicts.

The Mediterranean Sailing Circuit presents its second edition
