The organization is considering two courses between 105 and 150 nautical miles to the south.
May 29, 2024 – The 51st Conde de Godó BMW Sailing Trophy will kick off this Thursday at 3 PM with the start of the ORC Double Handed fleet, featuring a total of 17 boats that will sail along the Catalan coast. The first of the two races will be a long race of over 100 miles starting this Thursday, with most of the fleet expected to arrive throughout Friday. The second coastal race will take place on Saturday along the Barcelona coast. The top three boats in ORC Double Handed will receive the Joan Guiu trophies.
Jordi Zaragona's Ia Orana will defend its title as the winner of the Conde de Godó Trophy in ORC Double Handed. The boat from Club Nàutic Vilanova won last year's edition after an exciting battle to the end with Iván Olive's Shaka from the Real Club Náutico de Barcelona. Both boats achieved a first and a third place in the two races, but the boat from Garraf ended up winning due to a better coefficient after the two races.
This year, both teams are returning, joined by other boats that are familiar with winning in Barcelona waters, such as the Murcian boat O’Marylou, one of the winners of the ORC Double Handed World Championship organized by RCN Barcelona last September. This time, it will be crewed by Unai Cilleruelo and Gonzalo Terceño.
Other teams to watch include Smerit (CV Blanes) of Tito Moure, the Dutch Yellow Rose of Marten Jan Ringers, who are always at the front and have already made it to the podium at the Conde de Godó Trophy, as well as the world runner-up Tarterita (RCM Barcelona) of Jordi Bosch.
A total of twelve courses are planned. The Race Committee will analyze the weather conditions on Thursday morning and choose the most suitable one based on the forecasted conditions.
With 24 hours to go before the start, the organization is considering courses 6 and 7, heading south. Course 6 is 105 miles long, starting from Barcelona, rounding the Petrolera off the coast of l’Atmetlla de Mar, and returning to Barcelona. Course 7 is longer, at 150 miles, starting from Barcelona to the Tortosa Lighthouse at the entrance of the Ebro Delta, and back to Barcelona.
ORC Double Handed races are increasingly gaining ground within traditional high-level cruising regattas. Thus, the three that make up the Mediterranean Sailing Circuit, PalmaVela organized by RCN Palma, the Conde de Godó BMW Trophy by RCN Barcelona, and the Reina Trophy by RCN Valencia, have highlighted this growing category, which has now been joined by other high-level regattas such as TabarcaVela, which will debut this year with a race from Valencia.

The 51st Conde de Godó BMW Sailing Trophy is part of the Mediterranean Sailing Circuit, along with the PalmaVela Regatta organized by the RCN Palma and the SM La Reina Trophy organized by the RCN Valencia.
